Fire Damage Restoration Process
10/4/2022 (Permalink)
Fire in house is the owner’s worst nightmare. Just the thought of most of the house stuff going up in flames is enough to make most people’s skin crawl. But a faster response is the key to help prevent further damage and reduce the restoration cost. Damage from water is also common in the event of a fire, as the fire department will have to douse your home when putting out the fire. SERVPRO of Tracy specializes in both fire and water damage restoration. Our goal is to restore your home to pre-fire condition and make it “ Like it never even happened.”
The following strategy is followed by SERVPRO of Tracy in order to achieve its goal.
Initial Inspection: The very first step is the initial inspection by our team. They inspect not only the immediate affected area but also the adjacent rooms or areas to see how far the smoke and soot has travelled. All this information is used to create a plan, cost estimate and time frame for the cleanup process.
Removing Debris and Safeguarding Property: Once the initial assessment is finished, we begin clearing out the debris from the property. If the doors, windows or ceilings were compromised by the fire, our team will use tarps or boardups to secure them before they move on with any other cleanup efforts.
Restoration of Belongings and Furniture: Then the next step will be restoring the valuable items and belongings. Our team will make list of inventory of what is salvageable and what isn’t. The restorable items get a detailed cleaning. Some of the items are packed and moved out to warehouse for special cleaning.
Deodorizing : To neutralize the odor particles in the porous and non porous surfaces, the following methods are used for deodorizing.
- EPA registered cleaning agent.
- Air Scrubbers with HEPA filtration.
- ULV Ultra-Low Volume fogging equipment.
- Hydroxyl Generator
- Ozone equipment.
If your home or business has fire damage, you can count on SERVPRO of Tracy, we are always ready to help you.

The Basic on Fire Extinguishers
10/10/2021 (Permalink)
Knowing how to use a fire extinguisher can limit damage when a small fire breaks out.
The kitchen is one common room where fires can occur, so it’s important to make sure there is a working extinguisher near the stove. Physically checking the fire extinguishers annually can be combined with replacing smoke detector batteries.
Types of Fire Extinguishers
Most homes use Class ABC extinguishers that are typically used to put out burning wood, paper, flammable liquids and electrical fires. They typically include the dry chemical monoammonium phosphate as the dowsing agent.
While this may cause chemical damage in addition to the fire damage, the scope can be limited to the immediate area if the fire quickly subsides.

Call SERVPRO of Tracy on 209-834-0200 for any kinds of fire damage.
Home fires are preventable. At SERVPRO of Tracy, we see a lot of house fires both large and small.
Here are the following simple steps that each of us can take to prevent a fire.
Smoke Detectors - make sure you have smoke detectors inside bedrooms and on every level of your home. Change the batteries in your smoke detectors twice a year. Spring forward and Fall back time changes are good way to remember when to change your smoke detector's batteries.
Close the Door - prior to going to bed. Half of the fatal home fires start between 11pm and 7am. Shutting bedroom doors dramatically slows the spread of smoke, flames and heat. This can buy you crucial time to get out of the house safely.
Have an Escape Plan for everyone including your beloved pets. Identify at least 2 escape routes for each family member and practice twice a year. If you have kids, make sure they know what the smoke alarm sounds like in case you cannot get to them to help them escape.
Never go back inside - you will risk smoke inhalation. Wait for the trained professionals to help you when they arrive.
We want you to stay safe.
Please follow these tips to help Fire proof your home.

Make a Checklist for Fire Prevention..
3/10/2021 (Permalink)
Check that the fire extinguisher in your home is up to date. Having one in the house that is in usable condition can help stop the spread of fire.
A safety checklist is a must for being prepared for a fire at home.
SERVPRO of Tracy would like to advise you to take personal responsibility and prepare long before a fire threatens your home and your family’s safety.
Sit down with your family and review this fire safety checklist:
- Install and maintain a working smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detector in every bedroom, outside of every sleeping area and on every level of the home, including the basement, and remember to change the battery at least once a year.
- Interconnect all smoke alarms throughout the home. This way, when one sounds, they all do.
- Test alarms at least monthly by pushing the test button.
- Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old or sooner if they don’t respond properly.
- Make sure everyone in the home knows the sound of the smoke alarm and understands what to do when they hear it.
- Know where your fire extinguisher is mounted, and make sure everyone in the family knows how to use it.
- Designate two escape routes from each bedroom and practice them regularly.
- Teach everyone the "Stop, Drop, and Roll" technique in case clothing catches on fire.
- Avoid storing old mattresses in the home or garage.
- Teach kids that matches, lighters, and candles are tools, not toys. If you suspect that a child is playing with fire, check under beds and in closets for telltale signs like burned matches. Matches and lighters should be stored in a secure drawer or cabinet.
Keep these quick tips in mind, and prevent a major fire damage emergency from taking place in your home.

Preparation for Fires...in your Area
8/24/2020 (Permalink)
Currently right now in San Francisco Bay Area fires and wildfires burning across Northern California including around SERVPRO of Tracy where we are located.
Fire at your home or business can be a very difficult and stressful experience. In most cases the fire starts without notice.
Each year more than 3,000 people die and over 12,700 are injured in home fires in the United States. This number could drop significantly if people would prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
The real problem is that the average person has the attitude that it will never happen to them. Which is the worst attitude when it comes to any form of disaster.
Here at SERVPRO of Tracy we encourage people in our community to prep homes and businesses for any types of unannounced disasters, especially fires.
Fire can come on quick with mostly no warning and can destroy everything if not properly put out by your local fire departments.

Discovered FIRE at Home?
7/27/2020 (Permalink)
What to do During a FIRE...
Imagine; you’re sitting at home and minding your own business. You got a bowl of popcorn and you are watching a movie on TV. Suddenly you smell smoke and see a bright light in the corner of your eye.
What do you do?
- Do you have family or pets sleeping somewhere?
- Do you have important documents that you need to have?
- Do you have irreplaceable photographs that are not in the cloud lying around the house?
- Do you have a plan?
These are things that need to be premeditated when it comes to fire. It can take less than 5 minutes from the beginning of a fire to make it unlivable inside your house.
It is important to have an escape route planned. The same reason that we use to do fire drills at school is the same reason you should do fire drills at your house.
Time it and plan it out....

Fire Damage
10/14/2019 (Permalink)
The Fire Damage Assessment
One of the primary components of the fire damage restoration process is determining the extent of smoke damage. SERVPRO of Tracy will complete this step by doing a thorough assessment of your property. During this time, you'll also need to contact your insurance agent to ensure that they are aware of the fire damage.
In many cases, the insurance company will refer you to a professional fire damage restoration company that they work with regularly. In this case, the two companies will likely collaborate to draft a cost-effective settlement. SERVPRO works in a cooperative manner with many insurance companies. This may lessen your out-of-pocket expenses.
Cleaning Your Home
After performing a thorough fire damage assessment, the remediation company will move forward with the cleanup process. It is critically important that the cleanup project is initiated as soon as possible, starting with water removal. Otherwise, you will give mold and harmful bacteria an opportunity to start growing at your property. After powerful extractors remove the bulk of the water, dehumidifiers in your home will be used to remove excess moisture. Additionally, the remediation specialists will make use of cleaners, foggers, and deodorizers to eliminate the odor caused by soot and smoke.

Facts of False Fire Alarms
7/29/2019 (Permalink)
The 3 Most Common Causes of False Alarms in in Smoke Detectors...
While a fire alarm is a terrifying noise, not all alarms require the Tracy, CA Fire Department or the recovery assistance of a fire restoration company. Some alarms, especially from smoke detectors, are false, but what causes these essential contraptions to produce a false alarm? Keep reading to find out.
- Malfunction/False Alarm
Sometimes the only explanation of a false alarm is a malfunction. A smoke alarm is a piece of machinery, and as such, it is prone to some unexplainable quirks from time to time. That being said, every smoke detector that is labeled with the UL logo is rigorously tested for effectiveness and performance.
2. Low or Dying Batteries
Likely the most common cause of a false fire alarm is low or dying batteries. The recommendation is that you replace your smoke alarm batteries at least once per year, but because they are inconspicuous and rarely used, smoke detectors are easy to forget. It may be helpful to write a reminder on your calendar or set up an alarm on your phone to remind you to replace the batteries.
3. Dust and Smoke Damage
Strange but enough smoke and fire damage can cause a false alarm, as well as dust buildup. If a smoke detector has been exposed to fire and smoke before, the remnants of that damage can interfere with the detection process and trigger an alarm. Additionally, if dust builds up in the housing of the alarm blocking either the ionization or the photoelectric pulse, then it too can trigger a false alarm.
4. Accidental Test
Also, the accidental pressing of the test button can trigger a false alarm. Whether you were dusting around the smoke alarm, replacing the batteries, or trying to put the housing cover back on, the test button can easily set off a false alarm.
A false fire alarm may be one of the biggest frustrations a homeowner can experience. However, while false alarms may be a nuisance, there are several explanations for why they occur, and despite the irritation, you still can agree that a false alarm is better than no alarm at all.

Tips to Prevent Home Fires..
10/1/2018 (Permalink)
Home fires are preventable. SERVPRO of Tracy has the following simple steps that each of us can take to prevent a tregedy.
COOKING:
- Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
- Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking.
- Keep children away from cooking areas by enforcing a "kid-free zone" of 3 feet around the stove.
- Position barbecue grills at least 10 feet away from siding and deck railings, and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
SMOKING:
- Smoke outside and completely stub out butts in an ashtray or a can filled with sand.
- Soak cigarette butts and ashes in water before throwing them away. Never toss hot cigarette butts or ashes in the trash can.
- Never smoke in a home where oxygen is used, even if it is turned off. Oxygen can be explosive and makes fire burn hotter and faster.
- Be alert - don’t smoke in bed! If you are sleepy, have been drinking, or have taken medicine that makes you drowsy, put your cigarette out first.
ELECTRIC/APPLIANCE SAFETY:
- Frayed wires can cause fires. Replace all worn, old or damaged appliance cords immediately and do not run cords under rugs or furniture.
- If an appliance has a three-prong plug, use it only in a three-slot outlet. Never force it to fit into a two-slot outlet or extension cord.
- Immediately shut off, then professionally replace, light switches that are hot to the touch and lights that flicker.
PORTABLE SPACE HEATERS:
- Keep combustible objects at least three feet away from portable heating devices.
- Buy only heaters evaluated by a nationally recognized laboratory, such as Underwriters Laboratories (UL).
- Check to make the portable heater has a thermostat control mechanism, and will switch off automatically if the heater falls over.
- Only use crystal clear K-1 kerosene in kerosene heaters. Never overfill it. Use the heater in a well-ventilated room.
FIREPLACES AND WOODSTOVES:
- Inspect and clean woodstove pipes and chimneys annually and check monthly for damage or obstructions.
- Use a fireplace screen heavy enough to stop rolling logs and big enough to cover the entire opening of the fireplace to catch flying sparks.
- Make sure the fire is completely out before leaving the house or going to bed.
CHILDREN:
- Take the mystery out of fire play by teaching children that fire is a tool, not a toy.
- Store matches and lighters out of children's reach and sight, preferably in a locked cabinet.
- Never leave children unattended near operating stoves or burning candles, even for a short time.
MORE TIPS:
- Never use stove range or oven to heat your home.
- Keep combustible and flammable liquids away from heat sources.
- Portable generators should NEVER be used indoors and should only be refueled outdoors or in well ventilated areas.

The Facts of Fire...

Call SERVPRO of TRACY on 209-834-0200 and you will learn why we say " Like it never even happened."
We, at SERVPRO of Tracy knows everything about fire damage and much more.
Here are JUST THE FACTS ABOUT FIRE
In 2014, fires caused 2745 deaths, 11,825 injuries, and $6.8 Billion in property damage.
Three out of five home fire deaths are caused by fires in homes with no smoke alarms or not working alarms.
Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in reported home fires in half.
In fires considered large enough to activate the smoke alarm, hardwired alarms operated 94 percent of the time, while battery powered alarms operated 80 percent of the time.
When smoke alarms fail to operate, it is usually because batteries are missing, disconnected or dead.
One quarter of home fire deaths are caused by fires that start in the bedroom. Another quarter result from fires in the living room, family room or den.
One-third of survey respondents who made an estimate thought they would have at least 6 minutes before a fire in their home would become life-threatening. The time available is often much less. Only 8 percent said their first thought on hearing a smoke alarm would be to get out.
WHAT TO DO UNTIL HELP ARRIVES
DO:
- Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpet.
- Keep hands clean. Soot on hands can further soil upholstery, walls and woodwork.
- Place dry, colorfast towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas
- If electricity is off, empty freezer/refrigerator completely and prop doors open to help prevent odor.
- Wipe soot from chrome kitchen/bathroom faucets, trim and appliances, then protect these surfaces with a light coating of lubricant.
- If heat is off during winter, pour RV antifreeze in sinks, toilet bowls, holding tanks and tubs to avoid freezing pipes and fixtures.
- Change HVAC filters; leave system off until a trained professional can check the system.
- Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers to stop particles of soot from getting in or out of the HVAC system.
DO NOT:
- Don’t attempt to wash any walls or painted surfaces without first contacting your SERVPRO® Franchise Professional.
- Don’t attempt to shampoo carpet or upholstered furniture without first consulting your SERVPRO® Franchise Professional.
- Do not attempt to clean any electrical appliances (TV sets, radios, etc.) that may have been close to fire, heat, or water without first consulting an authorized repair service.
- Do not consume any food or beverages that may have been stored close to fire, heat or water, as they may be contaminated.
- If ceiling is wet, do not turn on ceiling fans. Wiring may be wet or damaged and cause electrical shock, and air movement may create secondary damage.
- Don’t send garments to the dry cleaner. Improper cleaning may set in smoke odor.

Working Fire Damage Options to Residents of Manteca

Smoke and soot residues can destroy your property after a fire if not remediated right away. Contact SERVPRO for a quick response and action plan.
Our Technicians Bring Their Understanding of Fire When Remediating Fire Damage in Your Home
Never be overwhelmed with panic after your property experiences fire damage, especially when you are a resident of Manteca. The combustion process leaves behind the smoke and heat residues that you need to handle with much care. To do the restoration correctly, make sure you contact professionals in this field.
Understanding the theory of fire is so important to control fire damage incidents in Manteca. That is what a service provider like SERVPRO, which operates in the area brings on board. As professionals, we know not all types of soot are the same. While there are those which you can effortlessly clean, some are so difficult to deal with. The secret lies in learning more about combustion and smoke.
The burning process is known as combustion, and it leads to the production of smoke. For complete combustion to take place, we must have a balance of oxygen, heat, and fuel. In most cases, achieving that balance is not possible, and it leads to incomplete combustion - which accounts for smoke residues that we see.
When your solid contents burn, they release aerosol, gases, and particles. When these particles float in the air, they form smoke. The particles in smoke can absorb odor, and that is why it smells. You should note that the smoke contains polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons that are considered carcinogenic. That is why restorers from companies like SERVPRO wear respirators when conducting the restoration process.
After some time, the smoke lands on a surface, and it forms soot - a composition of the residues of smoke. When the soot mixes with moisture, it leads to the formation of acids. When the resulting acids come in contact with materials, corrosion and discoloration results. It implies that the sooner you restore your property, the earlier you can prevent further damage and incurring unnecessary loses.
At SERVPRO of Tracy, we respond faster to any fire damage cases irrespective of the time you contact us. Call us today at (209) 834-0200 to learn more about the available options.

Fire Damage Restoration In Manteca

Manteca Fire & Smoke Damage Restoration Efforts are the Cornerstone of SERVPRO SERVICES
SERVPRO Offers Industry-Leading Fire Cleanup and Restoration Services
The devastation of a Manteca home fire often seems beyond any remediation. Soot and smoke damage, along with charring, is exacerbated by the large quantities of water used to extinguish the flames. Modern fire damage abatement techniques employed by highly qualified restoration companies inspire hope that the harm is reversible, and your house can be made whole again.
Fire damage to your Manteca house can include significant water devastation and persistent odors. It is crucial that the company you chose to deliver recovery efforts be skilled in a wide range of restoration methods and techniques. Our project managers and crews train regularly, attending courses approved by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC). The Institute is responsible for developing industry standards the public relies upon when seeking for the best approach to return a home to preloss condition.
SERVPRO employs only workers who master both basic and advanced fire restoration techniques, as well as water damage remediation and odor elimination. In fact, most fire scenes require water removal and damage control before addressing the fire residues. Standing water and high moisture levels of saturated building materials lead to deterioration, and secondary damage like mold growth and restoration must happen fast.
Once the water damage stabilizes, SERVPRO teams begin addressing smoke and soot deposits. Ashy and light soot deposits usually respond well to vacuuming or dry sponging. Heavier residues, like those from grease fires or blazes, extinguished through chemical means, need cleansers or solvents and sometimes abrasive tools to loosen the debris. Fabrics and intricately designed items like blinds or knick-knacks require wet or dry cleaning using specialized materials and sometimes immersion or agitation.
It may be astonishing to the layperson just how many examples of fire damage can be recovered with the proper education, tools, and professional products. SERVPRO has a restoration mindset, saving you time and money by finding a way to bring structures and contents back to life rather than tearing out and replacing damaged materials and possessions. Even something as tough to manage as persistent smoky odors can be eliminated through our gradually more technologically advanced methods. We move from a good scrubbing to the use of thermal fogging or hydroxyl generators to change the chemical composition of odor particles, rendering them neutralized.
Cleaning up after a fire is a complicated business, but SERVPRO of Tracy is more than up to the challenge. Call us at (209) 834-0200 as soon as the firefighters release your property for restoration, and we will begin the many tasks necessary to transform your home to its previous state, “Like it never even happened.”
