Appliances Failures and Water Damages

10/19/2022 (Permalink)

One of the biggest problems a home has from flooding is due to appliances. Yes, common household appliances are the main culprit behind most of the water damages. The appliances are meant to make our life easier. But, they are prone to leaks at some point if they are not caught early on. Here's a few things you should remember to do often to prevent water damages caused by the appliances.

If you notice water pooling below your kitchen refrigerator, you most likely either have a water line that is leaking or a freezer that is not cold enough. Check the bottom of your freezer to see if there is standing water or ice forming. As the water or ice forms, it can melt and leak every time you open the freezer. If you don’t find ice or water forming at the bottom of your freezer, you may have a water line that is loose or leaking.

The water line is used to make ice and sometimes provide water in the refrigerator door. The line is usually located in the back of the refrigerator and can be knocked causing a slow leak. It’s a good idea to occasionally check around your refrigerator for standing water and fix the problem before the water gets worse or causes damage to your floors.

Much like your refrigerator, a dishwasher can leak water for a while until it is discovered. The water line and/or the drain to the dishwasher is usually connected at the back of the dishwasher and any leaks could take weeks or months to appear. While you can’t do anything about hidden leaks, the other commonplace that a dishwasher leaks is around the door. If the seals around the door have been cracked or compromised, water can leak out while it is running and pool below the dishwasher.

It’s always a good idea to check on a regular basis around the bottom of your dishwasher for any standing water or signs of water. If you do find any signs, you can then further investigate to determine if it’s around the door or if it’s coming from the water or drainage line hidden behind your dishwasher.

Washing Machine:

The washing machine is no exception to leaking, with its water intake and water drainage. Water can also leak out around the door of the washing machine from old or damaged seals. Just like your dishwasher, it’s important to regularly check around your washing machine for any signs of water leakage. Check the water hookup, water drainage, and around the door for signs of water.

Air Conditioner:

The last common source of water damage in homes is the air conditioner. Whether you have a central air conditioner or window ac units, they both can cause water to leak and damage your home. In both systems, the air conditioner typically creates a lot of condensation when running in the hot summer. This condensation is usually gathered in a pan where it then drains outside or into a drain. If the drain becomes clogged, the water in the pan can overflow and drip inside your home or into other parts of the air conditioner where it can promote mold growth.

If you notice your vents are blowing air that smells moldy or like a damp basement, then you need to check for standing water or mold growth around the blower, filter, and cooling coils of the unit. You might also find water dripping or pooling around the unit. Again, just like your other appliances, it’s a good idea to regularly check your air conditioner as well as maintain it.

If you experience any water damage to your home or office then give us a call at SERVPRO of Tracy at 209-834-0200. We are here for you 24/7 and 365.

Tips to Avoid Faulty Plumbing

12/13/2021 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO of Tracy to restore your water damaged property fast and safe

SERVPRO of Tracy has noticed that many times when water damage occurs in a home or commercial property, it is due to faulty plumbing.

Those without plumbing experience may have a difficult time recognizing potential issues and then addressing these issues before they become a bigger, more expensive problem.

There are eight common causes of plumbing leaks that can lead to water damage to a property.

  1. Advanced Corrosion – Over an extended period of time, corrosion can damage pipes and create holes where water can escape. This is a more common issue in piping that was installed over 30 years ago.
  2. Degraded Seals – In order to keep connections watertight, rubber seals are used wherever the pipes are connected to the fixtures. Over time, these seals can degrade and crack, allowing water to seep out and eventually cause damage.
  3. Excess Water Pressure – Water pressure that is too high can actually damage the inside of the plumbing pipes and create a risk for leaks. If the pressure is extremely high, it can even cause the pipes to burst.
  4. Fixture Cracks – Sometimes the actual faucet or pipe that connects directly to it can crack and cause a water leak. This usually happens due to impact. One area that this is common is under the sink. When items are stored under the sink, the pipes are often repeatedly bumped and can eventually lead to pipe damage and water leaks.
  5. Incorrect Pipe Laying – Plumbing should be handled by knowledgeable professionals. It is very important that pipes and connectors are laid properly because small mistakes that at first may not be noticeable can cause massive water damage later.
  6. Pipe Joint Damage – The bends or joints where the water is redirected through the pipes are curved connectors that attach to the straight pipes on either side. Extreme temperatures and water pressure can damage these joints and lead to water damage.
  7. Shifted Connections – Over time, homes can shift and therefore, so can the pipes inside. If the shifts are too much, the pipe connections can break and water damage occurs.
  8. Untreated Clogs – It seems obvious how clogged drains can lead to backups and water damage. But how the clogs are treated can also cause pipe damage. Chemical drain cleaners are often used to unclog drains. At times these chemicals do not remove the entire clog which causes the harmful chemicals to be trapped in one spot in the pipe system. The chemicals can then eat away at the pipe, eventually causing damage and a water leak. It is safer to treat clogs with a plumbing snake or hydro-jetting.

Hopefully learning how to recognize potential plumbing problems and how to address the issues will help you avoid future water damage to your property. But in the unfortunate event that you do end up with a water damage disaster.

Which Appliance Cause the Most Water Damage?

10/4/2021 (Permalink)

Water heaters are a major cause of water damage in homes. Call SERVPRO of Tracy if you experience water damage in your home.

We, SERVPRO of Tracy, have the unique ability to help property owners in a variety of ways to detect water leakage. You may think that water damage only occurs in your home or workplace after a storm, but actually most water damage calls that we respond to come from appliances that we use on a daily basis.  Here is a list of the most common culprits.

  • Refrigerators have all kinds of things that can go wrong and cause leaks: ice makers, water dispensers and condensation lines to name a few.  Water lines are the most normal culprit for leaks.
  • Dishwashers most commonly get clogged due to the wrong type of detergent being used, which causes the machine to overflow.  Small pieces of plastic may cover drain openings.
  • Washing Machines leak thanks to uneven loads of laundry or pinched water hoses.  Sometimes a censor will fail to shut water off during filling.
  • Water Heaters cause more water damage in homes than any other appliance due to leakage.  You can remove sediment and prevent clogs from forming by flushing your water tank every six months.
  • Attic-Installed Air Conditioners can create water damage when condensation drain lines are clogged, but an annual maintenance check on your unit will help keep it from malfunctioning when you need it most.

If you need help with any water damage issues, don’t wait.  Call the experts at SERVPRO of Tracy at 209 834 0200. We are here 24 hours a day 7 days a week to help you.

Did you know about Lead Paint?

8/9/2021 (Permalink)

Our SERVPRO of Tracy technician's would like to share inside of lead paint...

Lead paint as it pertains to old houses, have long been a lightening rod of controversy. Some people fear old homes of having lead paint and have difficulty buying them.

Lead paint may not be the national health concern you've been told. For children and pregnant women, even the smallest amount of lead can be not good.  Recent EPA, CDC rules and regulations concerning lead paint are completely unwanted and accomplish nothing, but increased cost for homeowners.

If your home was built before 1978,  there is a good chance it has lead base paint. SERVPRO of Tracy is very careful to follow the complex array of rules laid out in the Era's renovation, repair and painting act or (RRP), that went into effect in April 2010.

Be aware that a older home is more likely to have lead paint.

Found Black Mold in Your Shower?

8/2/2021 (Permalink)

If You See Any Signs of Mold, Call Us Today –SERVPRO of Tracy 209-834-0200...

SERVPRO of Tracy says when you’re taking a shower, the last thing you want to see is the detestable substance that you fear to be mold. Mold, which grows and thrives in damp or humid environments, is not uncommon in bathrooms. There are many different types of mold, but perhaps the most feared and dreaded variety is the infamous black mold.

But, is black mold really as alarming as it’s often depicted? And, either way, what should you do if you discover black mold in your shower?

  1. What is Black Mold?

Black mold, or “Stachybotrys chartarum”, is a variety of mold that is often dark green or black in color. It also releases mycotoxins. Many varieties of mold do, however, cause health effects.

Therefore, if you spot black mold or mold of any kind in your shower, it is important to eliminate it as soon as possible in order to limit its health effects to those living in your home. In order to keep those living in your home safe, don’t attempt to clean or remove the mold on your own, as handling mold is dangerous and requires specialized equipment. Instead, call SERVPRO of Tracy at 209-834-0200  immediately for our professional black mold removal and mold remediation services.

    2. Black Mold Infestation in Your Shower?

Where does black mold grow?

Just like other types of mold, black mold grows in areas with excessive moisture or humidity, making the shower a prime location. You can usually spot black mold in your shower by its black or dark green color and slimy texture.

At first sight, you may wonder if there is a treatment for black mold or anything that you can do to prevent the mold growth and its effects. However, it is best to leave the mold alone, as attempting to touch it in any way may facilitate the spread. Upon discovering mold growth that resembles black mold, give us a call.

    3. Preventing Black Mold

There are also several steps that you can take to prevent the growth of black mold in your shower. First, limit the amount of moisture and humidity in your shower by making sure that your bathroom is properly ventilated. This can be achieved by keeping a fan on or window open for the duration of your shower. You can also hinder the accumulation of moisture by drying damp areas or using a squeegee after taking a shower.

Lastly, should you discover any broken pipes or leaks in your bathroom or shower, be sure to have them fixed as quickly as possible to avoid mold growth.

    4.  Call SERVPRO of Tracy Today for Professional Mold Remediation

Air Movers are an Asset to Drying

7/26/2021 (Permalink)

This photo shows the different types of air movers used to dry water damaged by a leak in dishwasher

Air movers are an essential and necessary tool for drying structures of homes.  Air movers help move large amounts of air over surfaces to dry them. Air movers also help the dehumidifiers work to their optimum performance.

At SERVPRO of Tracy there are a number of different air movers that can be utilized depending on the size of the job: velo air movers, sahara air movers, ace air movers and vortex or axial air movers.

  1. Velo air movers are low-profile air movers that can be used to get to hard to reach areas and a great way to assist in the drying of wet carpeting.
  2. Sahara air movers are great for drying carpets and directing air upwards to helping with drying ceilings.
  3. One of the most common air movers that SERVPRO of Tracy uses is the Ace fan.  These air movers are great for directing large amounts of air either forward, upward, downward and use little power(lower amperage).
  4. The last type of air mover that we use is the Vortex air mover or Axial air mover.  This air mover works great for crawlspace.  They are very effective at creating negative pressure and pushing humid air out of a space.

Air movers work great when paired with dehumidifiers.  The air mover can move the hot dry air over the wet surface you are trying to dry.  Without use of air movers being used throughout the  drying process it would delay our SERVPRO of Tracy crews who are drying the structure.

Water Damage from Storm and Flood...

5/21/2021 (Permalink)

At SERVPRO of Tracy we seen it all..

Floods And Damage Across Several States..

Storms and heavy rain can cause heavy flooding in a short period of time. Certain parts of the country experienced heavy rain earlier this year. People experienced dangerous storm water and flood damage in 6 states in early March. The National Weather Service is warning that rivers will stay in flood stage for days. The flood waters forced evacuations and millions in damage.

After The Flooding

Flooding means that not only will a homeowner have to think about the current situation of being displaced from their home and losing some of their personal belongings, but the results after the water is gone. Standing water is a breeding ground for bacteria.

Once the water has subsided the presence of dirt, grime, bacteria and mold will be present. The level of expensive damage depends on how long the standing water is left unattended. There is no telling when the water can be extracted from the towns let alone peoples houses.

After the water have subsided and before you immediately enter your home refer to this checklist.

1. Watch out for wild animals, poisonous snakes that may have entered the home, check thru the debris.

2. Watch out for plaster, loose ceiling structures and document everything for yourself and for insurance purposes.

3. Throw away any food, anything that may have come in contact with the flood waters, anything in the fridge.

4. Check electrical systems, gas leaks, sewage and water lines all for damage.

SERVPRO of Tracy specializes in storm and flood damage restoration. Our crews are highly trained and we use specialized equipment to restore your property to its pre-storm condition.

Call SERVPRO of Tracy at 209-834-0200. Even if your flood damage is not as dramatic as what we saw in the south earlier this year, we'll be there to help.

Helpful Tips to Avoid Pipe Burst

12/16/2020 (Permalink)

Call SERVPRO of Tracy for Fire & Water - Cleanup & Restoration at 209 834 0200.

SERVPRO of Tracy has some helpful hints to avoid pipe being burst/broken..

Pipe breaks are one of the most common water damages that we receive from December to March at SERVPRO of Tracy. When water freezes it expands. Therefore, if water freezes in a pipe, the pipe can expand enough to the point that it bursts. However, it’s not necessarily the frozen water that caused the direct burst.

It is the water pressure between the ice and the closed faucet. That pressure is enough to break a pipe and cause a  water damage in your home or office.

Helpful Prevention Tips:

  • Keep cabinet doors open during cold spells. This allows warm air to circulate around pipes.

  • Keep a slow trickle of water flowing through faucets, especially if the pipes run through unheated or  uninsulated areas of your home and business.

  •  Keep your home at a temperature no lower   than 55°F (12°C).
  •  When going away, ask a friend or neighbor to check your house daily to make sure it’s warm enough to prevent freezing.
  • Seal leaks that allow cold air inside where pipes are located. Use caulk or insulation to keep the heat in.
  • Insulate pipes in crawl spaces and the attic. These exposed pipes are most susceptible to freezing.

Call in a professional drying crew like SERVPRO of Tracy Team at 209-834-0200 if you have any questions or concerns..

'FALL' Maintenance Tips for Your Home...

10/21/2020 (Permalink)

We, SERVPRO of Tracy would like to give you some inside tips...So, Autumn is already here. Now is the perfect time to tidy up and prepare your home for the chilly months to come. It’s an ideal time to get work done before shorter days prevent you from taking proactive measures. On the list below, we have gathered information on what you can do to make sure your home is in great shape all season round this Autumn.

  1. Take care of your trees

Make rounds throughout your front and backyard to make sure that your trees and bushes are in good condition and under control. Taking care to prune any precarious branches now will prevent any falling limbs once winter storms come along. Winter storms have been known to take down many tree limbs in the area, so it’s smart to tidy up before it becomes a headache later.

   2.   Rake your leaves

This tip seems intuitive, but many people love the look of fallen leaves on their yards. What they don’t realize is that leaves left throughout the season on your lawn, can prevent spring growth. Whether you use a leaf blower or a rake, just be sure to gather all leaves.

Pro-Tip: Be sure to wear gloves to make sure you don’t damage your hands.

   3.  Clean out your gutters

During the later part of Fall (like November) be sure to clear out your gutters and downspouts. The reason? Clogged gutters can cause water to pool, which can damage your roof or siding. By cleaning it out, you’re making sure that your outdoor drainage system is in peak condition before winter comes along.

   4.  Add Weatherstripping

Applied to the frames of any door or window, weatherstripping is an easy way to make sure your home is warm and your heating bills are cut. Also, consider adding a door sweeps to your doors leading to the outside (front, back, garage, etc) to make sure that a draft doesn’t follow you when you enter or exit.

   5.  Take down the window A/C units.

Summer is now behind us, so be sure to box away all of your air conditioning units. Can’t remove them? Then cover the entire exterior with an insulating wrap (Easily found at any hardware store) This will prevent cold air from coming into your home.

   6.  Clean Your Dryer Vents

The lint that collects in your dryer is actually dangerous. Besides making your dryer less efficient, it can actually start a fire. With cool, dry weather comes an increase in static electricity. The result? That lint collecting in your dryer can catch on fire. Reduce the risk by hiring a SERVPRO of Tracy professional to clean out the vents for you...

   7.  Schedule a chimney and heating system check-up

Getting ready to turn up the heat? First, make sure that your chimney, furnace, and boiler are cleaned, maintained, and in working order. It’s a crucial safety measure that should not be taken lightly.

   8.  Deep clean your kitchen

With Thanksgiving around the bend, it’s a great time to give your kitchen a deep clean. This makes sure that your space is not only efficient, but looking good too! Some areas to look out for:

  • Clean the oven
  • Vacuum the refrigerator coils
  • Clean light fixtures
  • Wash out your garbage and recycling bins
  • Clean small appliances
  • Degrease and wipe down the range hood and filter.

     9.  Check Your Smoke Detector

The cooler months are when fires are most likely to occur, with heating systems and fireplaces being used. Take special care to test smoke AND carbon monoxide detectors. Also, make sure you have a current fire extinguisher (i.e. not expired!) Use precaution, by checking on these safety devices, you are proactively taking care of your entire home!

If there is ever IS a fire in your home, be sure to contact SERVPRO of Tracy to take care of any damage. As always, we encourage our community to be safe and take all caution.

That’s our list! Fall is, arguably, the most beautiful season. Leaves falling, crisp air all around. In between pumpkin patches, apple picking, and drinking spiced lattes, make sure that you give your home some TLC.

Let us know which of our Maintenance Tips you will try out first by tagging us on social media.

  • Call SERVPRO of Tracy. We are always here for your needs..

During Coronavirus Lockdown Mold can spread quickly in Unoccupied Buildings

10/7/2020 (Permalink)

Why is it important to keep AC running while my building is vacant?....

Due to quarantine, many buildings are left empty and property managers may be tempted to wait until everything is back to business before switching the power back on. However, if the A/C unit is not circulating air throughout the office, restaurant, retail space, or apartment building, moisture can build up quickly and lead to the spread of unhealthy mold.

Keeping the air circulating is crucial, especially if the property is fully furnished. Fabric materials grow mold very easily due to the organic makeup of the fabric, making it a fantastic breeding ground for all types of mold. Mold can drastically spread in 48-72 hours.

By keeping your AC unit running, you will continue to control the climate in the building and help prevent moisture build-up on walls, ceilings, and furniture.

If your property sits vacant for a while remember these helpful tips:

  • Keep the air circulating
  • Cover furniture
  • Check the property regularly

If you find mold in your property:

  • Stay out of affected areas
  • Turn off the HVAC system and fans
  • Contact SERVPRO of Tracy  for mold remediation services.

What NOT to do:

  • Don’t touch or disturb mold growth
  • Don’t blow air across any surface with visible or suspected mold growth
  • Don’t attempt to dry the area yourself
  • Don’t spray bleach or other disinfectants on the mold

School Reopening ??

8/4/2020 (Permalink)

Around the world school reopenings have not been without controversy, decisions impact 1.4 billion students.

School districts, with county offices of education and the state officials, are planning how to reopen schools in the fall to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.

Announcements for how to reopen are happening amid a White House push to get children back into classrooms.

California school superintendents are negotiating an obstacle course of regulations, parental angst and safety concerns as they make plans to do something never done before — reopen schools during a pandemic.

School officials are balancing ensuring the safety of students and teachers with the need to offer child care for parents who must work.

They are weighing sometimes conflicting guidance from the state, local health departments and education organizations, and trying to appease parents who have differing opinions about whether their children should wear masks or practice social distancing.....

How to Perform a Water Heater Flush

7/29/2019 (Permalink)

We, SERVPRO of Tracy has Tips for you..

Consistent water heater maintenance can keep the appliance in great condition for many years. Take a look at the simple steps involved in performing a heater flush.

  • Gather Supplies

There aren't many tools required for a water heater flush.

  • Garden hose
  • Screwdriver or pliers
  • Work gloves for safety from hot water and appliance parts
  • Designated drainage spot

Once you have everything in place, it's time to get started.

  • Turn Off Power to the Heater

If you have an electric heater, shut off the electricity with the appropriate circuit breaker. If you have a gas heater, turn off the gas and watch for the pilot to extinguish.

  • Connect the Hose

Attach the garden hose to the drain valve on the water heater. Place the other end of the hose at your drainage location. This should be a place that can handle large quantities of warm water and sediment from the tank.

  • Open the Drain Valve

Let the water flow freely from the drain valve for several minutes and then turn on your kitchen hot water. After running the kitchen faucet for a couple of minutes, turn off the water supply valve (leaving the kitchen faucet running). When the water stops completely, turn the valve on again for a second flush and then close it again.

  • Close Valves

With the water and sediment drained from the heater, you can close the water supply valves and turn the water back on. The open faucet in the kitchen provides a good indication of how the water is running. When the water runs consistently, the tank is full and ready to go.

  • Turn On the Power

When the tank has filled completely, you can turn your electricity or gas back on. Turning on the power before the tank is full will damage the heating element.

Take the right steps to prevent sediment build up and a lot of related damages.

Preventing Ice Maker Leaks in your Home

Call SERVPRO OF TRACY on 209-834-0200 for any kinds of water or fire needs at your business/home.

Inspect and Replace Defective Parts or Call SERVPRO of Tracy for Help

Ice makers are a great convenience item to have in your home. You do not ever have to worry about those annoying ice trays again, or someone not refilling them and you running out of ice. When you add this device in your home, you need to be aware of some things first.

  • The installer should use a small metal saddle, called an ice maker valve, that is attached to a cold-water pipe close to the refrigerator. The kits for ice-makers usually include a clear plastic water pipe fitted to the valve and the water inlet on the fridge. This flexible piece of plastic tubing is the biggest culprit for a leak and water damage.
  • Miniscule holes in the tubing are unnoticeable during installation in your kitchen, and stay unnoticed for years, hidden behind your refrigerator.
  • Over time, many gallons of water seeping out the tubing can cause serious structural water damage to the floors and walls around your refrigerator.

This water damage means you need professional help from SERVPRO of Tracy, a water damage remediation company. Our experienced technicians have the tools and the knowledge to fix any water damage these types of leaks can cause.

11/26/2018 (Permalink)

Clogged Gutters Can Cause Water Damage and More..

Here at SERVPRO of Tracy, fire and water damage calls are an everyday occurrence. Since we are offically in fall season and leaves are falling everywhere, even in our gutters.

Here are Top 5 home problems that can be caused by clogged gutters:

  1. Roof Damage....
  2. Wood Fascia Damage. ...
  3. Damage to Walls, Windows, Doors and Patios. ...
  4. Damage to Foundations and Landscaping. ...
  5. Slip and Fall.

For example, clogged gutters can cause damages to your home. Which is a good reason why cleaning your gutters bi-annually could help prevent an uncomfortable situation for you and your family. A lack of maintenance can cause major problems for homeowners and can lead to costly repairs when left untreated.

A lot of times homeowners tend to over look the importance of gutter maintenance. Clogged gutters can cause home damages due to water causing cracks in the foundation overtime. Which then could lead to more severe problem like mold and or the collapse of the structure.

In most cases, when clogged gutters occur it can spill over the side and cause rot in the siding of the home. In colder climates, ice can form and cause a temporary block which most likely will cause an over flow.

Facts about Water Damage

8/10/2018 (Permalink)

Water damage is one of the most common forms of damage to your property.

Whether it's from a busted water pipe, sewage backup or flooding, water damage can wreak havoc on your property if not addressed immediately. While you likely already know the importance of proper water mitigation following a water loss, there's still a lot that may surprise you about water damage situations.

Here are some essentials you should know about water damage restoration:

The more polluted the water, the worse your situation. The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) classifies water into three categories in its S500 Standard:

  • Category 1: Generally sanitary water
  • Category 2: Significantly contaminated water
  • Category 3: Grossly contaminated water

The category of water on any loss will dictate how it's restored and how much can be salvaged.

Mold can be debilitating to your home's structure and to your health. And, it doesn't take long to begin to grow. Mold needs only five perfect conditions to grow in 48-72 hours:

  • Moisture
  • Food source
  • Prime temperature
  • No/minimal air movement
  • No/minimal light

Fast action is crucial. In order to begin processing an insurance claim, your agent needs to know about a water damage situation immediately, what happened, how it happened, the source of the water, etc. The longer you wait, the worse the situation gets - not to mention, your chances of having a "sudden damage" claim approved begin to dwindle.

Kitchen Sink Leaking?

8/6/2018 (Permalink)

Leaking kitchen sink is not only annoying but can be potentially be dangerous especially when waking up to water on the floor, first thing in the morning. Flooding due to a leak can quickly become a serious safety hazard, so immediate action must be taken. Before you begin to think about kitchen repair, there are several steps you should take to mitigate damage and ensure your safety and that of your household

  • Shut Off Your Water

If it is safe for you to stay in your house, the first thing you need to do is shut off your water to prevent further flooding. When determining whether it is safe to do so, check to make sure that there are no cords or wires in the water and that you can safely navigate the area without risk of slipping and falling Once you are absolutely sure it is safe, locate the two stop valves under the sink. These can usually be found at the back of the cabinet. Next, turn each of the small valves under them clockwise.

  • Call Your Insurance Company

Now that the leak has been stopped, you will want to call your insurance company to find out what steps you should take to make a water damage claim. Insurance policies vary, so the quickest and most efficient way to figure out what you need can be to read your policy and call your insurance agent. Coverage will also depend on the extent of the damage. Kitchen leaks will often damage walls, floors and cabinetry.

.Call a Local Restoration Company

Once you’ve made a claim against your insurance, you should then get in touch with a restoration company SERVPRO of TRACY to make the necessary repairs. We have the skilled technicians and equipment to restore your kitchen as quickly as possible. Services often include water removal, drying and dehumidification, and cleaning.

It’s easy to become overwhelmed when your kitchen is flooding, but following these steps can allow you to mitigate as much of the damage as possible and get your kitchen back to its pre-flood condition.

It is time to contact SERVPRO of Tracy on 209-834-0200 for any kinds of water damage restoration.

Water Removal and Your Carpets After Washing Machine Leakage

1/14/2018 (Permalink)

Regardless of whether the washer and dryer are upstairs or on the main level of the house, contacting SERVPRO after a leak gets you the best results.

SERVPRO Technicians Follow the Water's Path in Order to Thoroughly Remediate the True Extent of the Damage

In a lot of the more modern homes in Manteca, you find laundry rooms on upper levels of the homes. Although it might be more convenient to do your laundry, it can cause problems to the rest of the home if the washing machine ever leaks. You can suddenly wind up with a big flood of water which can also leak downstairs into other rooms, causing all kinds of damage to your home.
If this has happened to you, the amount of water put out by your washing machine in your home is likely a lot. You need professionals to help you with water removal and cleaning up any damage that has occurred in Manteca. SERVPRO is always standing by and has the tools and training to help you prevent any further damage to your home.
Our primary goal when restoring water damage is to preserve and protect your home and its contents. One of our first concerns is carpet and padding that is water-saturated. The construction of carpets poses two fundamental problems – separation of backing or delamination, and latex deterioration.
SERVPRO staff know that carpeting has a primary and secondary backing. Latex holds the carpet fibers into the primary backing and also holds the secondary and primary backings together. Latex begins breaking down as soon as the carpet is installed.
Delamination usually appears in the form of bubbles. High traffic areas are more likely to delaminate; it is a pre-existing condition we look out for. It can be caused by improper installation of the pad or carpet, excessive folding, and overly aggressive extraction. Delamination cannot be fixed.
Water damage to carpeting which is glued down can cause bubbling, which happens from the loss of adhesive and is not a result of cleaning or extraction. If just a small section is bubbled, we might be able to fix the issue. Otherwise, the carpet might have to be replaced.
Many situations also require the padding to be replaced. It can break apart when its wet, but most padding is inexpensive. The cost of removing, replacing, and reinstalling new padding is many times less than the added costs of drying it in place.
SERVPRO of Tracy takes the time to salvage anything in your home that is possible during the water removal and cleanup process. Just give us a call at (209) 834-0200 whenever your home in Banta, Ripon, Holt or surrounding areas has a water damage emergency.

Why Professional Water Damage Restoration Makes Sense in Tracy

11/29/2017 (Permalink)

Spills happen. When spills are too large for a homeowner to clean up successfully, it is time to contact SERVPRO for water damage restoration.

SERVPRO Technicians Make Sure That Contaminated Water is Properly Removed From Your Home After a Water Damage Incident

Nearly every Tracy homeowner has entry-level experience with mopping up minor spills. After all, water is used daily for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and washing, just to name a few commonplace tasks. Some splashing and dribbling are inevitable and may not need professional intervention. More significant overflows or long-term leaks require the experience and expertise of a professional water restoration company.
Burst pipes and water heaters, toilet and sink overflows, clogged gutters, and incursions through roofs, foundations, and other water damage in Tracy responds best when trained and experienced technicians provide restoration services. Only IICRC certified technicians are equipped to determine the techniques, equipment, and products that safely recover the water damaged structure and contents of your home. Chances are good hiring a restoration company saves you both time and money over the long term as you may discard many items we could restore because the average homeowner lacks the skills and experience.
SERVPRO managers and work crews train extensively to deliver fast and reliable water damage recovery services. The characteristics of the water causing the damage need assessment as soon as possible. Clean water leaves most structural components and possessions wet but usually completely restorable through the use of professional drying equipment and strategies. Gray water contains some contaminants, including soaps, cleansers, food, dirt, and oils or grease. Overflows of appliances like dishwashers or laundry machines are examples of gray water. With proper training and experience, professional restorers can remove gray water and its debris from most items.
Black water is tainted with human and animal waste, corrosive or poisonous chemicals, or other substances hazardous to human health. Toilet backups and clogged sewage lines, as well as runoff from rains or flooding, may be contaminated with feces, bacteria, viruses, or bloodborne pathogens, and are considered black water. Porous articles saturated with black water may not be suitable restorative risks. SERVPRO crew members are certified to make hard decisions about which items and materials must be discarded and which can be sanitized after soaking in black water.
Once the type of water damage is determined, SERVPRO workers swing into action, removing and properly disposing of standing water and then setting drying goals for salvageable items. Speedy drying is crucial, particularly when contaminated water is involved. Microbial growth begins within 48 hours and is amplified if the water is full of organic materials that provide nourishment for mold spores. We use heavy-duty, high-efficiency air movers, heaters, and dehumidifiers to move water vapor out of structure and contents quickly. Our professional reputation adds support to any claims you make to your insurance carrier, limiting your out of pocket costs when water damage strikes.
Hiring SERVPRO of Tracy for water damage remediation immediately increases your options and the odds of restoring much if not all of your home’s structure and contents. Call (209) 834-0200, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for top-notch professional help.

Common Laundry Mistakes That Can Cause Water Damage in Tracy Homes

10/20/2017 (Permalink)

Over-filling the drum of your washing machine can cause damage to it and could result in flooding your floors.

Tips for Preventing Your Washing Machine to Malfunction and Cause Water Damage

Having a washer at home in Tracy is very convenient. A home washing machine means no trips to the laundromat, and that is good news for any busy person. However there is one downside to having a washing machine in your home – like any machine they can break down, and if they break down, there is a risk of leaks. Leaks in your home mean water damage, so naturally, you want to avoid leaks if possible. Here are some common laundry mistakes that harm your machine and increase the chance of a breakdown.

Metal items are a leading cause of washer breakdown – and that means more risk of water damage in your Tracy household. The three most common culprits are:

•Coins – always check the pockets of every item for coins before starting your washer.

•Zippers – you cannot remove zippers from your clothes, but you can zip them all the way up to the top, so they do not flap around as much.

•Brassieres – underwire and clasps on lingerie might cause damage. You can protect your washer by placing underthings in a mesh laundry bag.

Another thing that causes washer damage is over-filling the drum. It is tempting when you have much laundry to stuff as much in as you can. Unfortunately, putting too many clothes in the machine puts extra stress on the delicate workings. SERVPRO recommends checking out the manufacturer’s guidelines about weight.

Power surges present another potentially dangerous situation. A sudden spike of electricity can harm your washer, including melting its plastic components. Protect your machine by using a surge protector, and by unplugging when not in use.

Sometimes even being careful does not prevent leaks. In the event of water damage, SERVPRO’s IICRC-certified technicians are on hand to extract water, dry out carpets, baseboards, and floors and restore your laundry room as soon as possible. We bring in dehumidifiers and air movers to speed the drying process when necessary.
